Sam Fender has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the Britain's independent concert spaces.
He was given the cheque on October 16 as his third album his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the past year.
He has decided to give the cash to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues played in his initial steps.
"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the gigs I did around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are in difficulty."
Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.
In the last year, top acts such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.
He also took part, generating over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous small stages across the UK.
The donation helped venues that were confronting potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and neighbor objections.
Additional spaces obtained financial assistance in improving amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.
"The notion that money from concerts in major spaces backs the local stages, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.
Fender is among several artists to contribute his honor funds to worthy causes.
In Pulp won the award in 1996 for their release Different Class, frontman the singer declared that the act would contribute their prize money to the non-profit War Child.
During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite divided her prize across multiple good causes, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.
"I also donated a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed updated gear," she shared with the media.
Two years ago, they gave their funds to the community center that developed their act, as well as other local music groups.
Also winners that year M People contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a close contact was identified with the illness.
"Receiving the award was quite enough," said vocalist the singer. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the main prize. So our victory touched somebody else's life."
Recently, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected a couple of local spots in the South East, by transferring them to public stewardship.
The first in that area and the other in Bristol were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "shares" in the buildings.
